My Thoughts

Here are my thoughts on the stories we have come up with.

For the Bomb story:

I'm thinking, instead of "figuring out what life's about', he finds a reason to stay alive (because he realizes life isn't so bad or that he could have a relationship, kids, and a happy life - that all he has to do is go out and practice.) Then, in the end, the bomb can blow up everything... So the screen would flash white and end in darkness. This would lead into credits and such. Then, as the credits pass, he could be an angel flying around. He'll have a girl angel hanging around him and later a little baby boy walks towards them. The man picks up the baby. Then, the camera zooms in on the faces of the man, girl, and baby boy as if it's a family portrait. Oh, also we can say he's a manically depressed office worker with no family and friends. The parts where he's searching for a spot to hide the bomb is supposed to be comical.

For the Bear-Grandmother:

I prefer the story where the grandmother is wearing the purple muumuu and beats the hell out of her assailants. This version is stronger because it is more descriptive and is a lot more appealing. I would see a bear mauling and impaling assailants rather than giving them a spanking. It seems more believable and less wishy-washy. The only reason I would see a bear spanking assailants would be if it was an old and decrepid bear - like the old woman would be, but then it wouldn't be menacing enough to frighten anyone. For the Racoons:
I like the concept. I think it would be an interesting story. I would feel better about it if the good guy wins in the end.

The Diner:

I think this story is strong. I can see this story without any dialog and presented as a music video. I would add more interaction between the old waitress and the older gentleman. This way it would seem like getting married isn't a spur of the moment decision. I'm also not quite sure if quitting the diner and telling the younger waitresses that they're being slow is nescessary. Or if you want to include the tipping part, as the couple get up to leave, there is a shot of the receipt. On it is no tip and a comment about the service. The ending could be, right before they leave the diner, she turns back to the younger waitresses and says that she quits. Then, as they open up the door, a beam of light shines in sihlouetting the couple as they kiss.

The Clogger/Ballerina dance-off:

I like how I can get a nice visual of the whole scene and what's going on. Out of curiosity, what is the significance of the gauzy cloth? With the exception of that, I really have no comments about it.

Overall, I believe that the Dance, Diner, and Bear-Grandmother are the strongest candidates. Next I would be the Bomb, followed by the Racoons.

  1. I have no sufficient explanation of the gauzy cloth. I was just looking back to ballets I've experienced, and there was always a lot of winding gauzy cloths around people. I thought maybe it would be funny to have the four cloggers tied together violently with a gauzy cloth...or... something.... I don't know. Looking back, it's kind of a dumb idea.
